P Group has been using the Cuckoo Workout break exercise app since last spring. Specialist work is mostly done sitting in front of a computer, which is why we started investing in employee wellbeing with the aid of break exercise sessions.
Arja Eskonniemi at OP is one of the most active users of Cuckoo. She takes three breaks every working day.
“Cuckoo never fails to remind me when it’s time for a break. It allows me to have a short pause from work, which gives me a shot of energy both physically and mentally. I have hardly any problems with my neck and shoulders these days, as my “sitting marathon” is broken up by short exercise breaks. Cuckoo is absolutely wonderful and gives a real boost to my working days,” says Eskonniemi.
Leena Nihtilä at OP also says that thanks to Cuckoo’s reminders, it is easier for her to remember to take breaks.
The pain I used to have in the neck and shoulder area has eased since I started using Cuckoo. I was also happy to see that the options include mindfulness exercises. At the end of a very busy day, taking a mindfulness break has been a lot of fun. The monthly favorite videos and my own favorites are also nice features, says Nihtilä.
The ideal working day: let’s talk about workplace wellbeing
On Thursday October 5, officially the Ideal Working Day, the focus is on workplace wellbeing. The aim of the day is to develop and try out new methods to improve workplace wellbeing. OP Group is taking part in the event.
It is important to do work you like and for which you have a passion. Being able to control your work is also important, meaning that even though you have a lot of work, you feel that you are in control of your work and schedule. You are also surrounded by a nice group of colleagues who provide support and bring social elements, joy and humor to your work, says Pia Donoghue, workplace wellbeing manager at OP.
OP Group has encouraged its units to come up with new methods to improve workplace wellbeing on the theme day.
This can be something like a spontaneous word of praise to a workmate, taking a walk during the working day, exceeding customer expectations, or having lunch with your colleagues. We also bought postcards that anyone can use to send a nice message or a word of praise to colleagues, says Donoghue.
OP encourages its units to make active use of the ideas presented during the Ideal Working Day, so that they will become more than just ideas. The workplace wellbeing manager also gives a shout-out to the break exercise app Cuckoo Workout.
The app is fun and different in a good way, it really makes people feel good. For us, Cuckoo is important particularly because it reminds us to take breaks that we might otherwise forget. We also encourage taking breaks during meetings and using Cuckoo on days when working from home, says Donoghue.
Pia Donoghue thinks the mindfulness breaks included in Cuckoo workout are a particularly good way of taking a short break from work.
Pausing to focus on something else besides work is extremely powerful. Getting things done matters a lot, but pausing is equally important. I would recommend Cuckoo to anyone with a desk job, because it offers an excellent counterbalance to work.
